Hey, it’s Sofia from Loop & Twine! This donut keychain crochet pattern is one of the quickest, most giftable amigurumi projects I’ve put together — a chunky crochet donut ring with sweet animal ears, a tiny embroidered face, and a matching little charm (a carrot for the bunny, a fluffy tail for the fox) dangling underneath. Each one takes about an hour once you’ve made your first, and they make adorable bag charms, keychains, or baby-safe rattles.

Part 1: The Donut Base (Make 2 — One Grey, One Orange)

The donut is made as a tube, joined into a ring, and lightly stuffed with the center hole left open. Work each color the same way.

  1. Round 1: Ch 24, sl st to the first chain to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.
  2. Rounds 2–10: Sc in each chain/stitch around. [24]
  3. Round 11: Fold the tube so the two ends meet, then sc through both layers to close it into a donut shape. Stuff lightly before fully closing.

Fasten off and weave in the end. For the orange donut, change to green yarn for the last 3 rounds to create a color-blocked “bib” effect, then embroider a blue detail in the center once assembled.

  2. (Sc, inc) x2. [6]
  3. (Sc 2, inc) x2. [8]

Tips

  • Use cotton yarn with a 3.5 mm hook instead if you want a larger, softer donut.
  • Stuff very lightly — too much stuffing will close up the donut hole and distort the shape.
  • Great for beginners and baby-safe gifts (use safety eyes rated for the intended age, or embroider instead). Make a whole matching set in different colors.
